If you have multiple hard drives, for example you may have a smaller SSD drive that you want to use for your OS and most commonly used games and a mechanical HDD for the large capacity it offers then Steam has traditionally been a pain to split games over two locations.

You have been able to do it for a while now by manually creating a directory junction, but there are a couple of easier options that you may not be aware of.

1. The latest beta version of the Steam client lets you do this out of the box. You have to register to participate in Steam beta (in Options), but then when you install a game it gives the option of installing elsewhere. This particular option does not work for me...it gives an error about creating the Steam Library folder.

2. Steam Mover lets you select games once installed and move them to another location. It basically does the directory junction processing for you and works nicely. http://www.traynier.com/software/steammover
