Looks like a good guide ... I'm on 20Mb down, 768Kbps up at home, so could probably run a 16 player dedicated server on one of my machines with a decent tick rate. I'm away this weekend, but will try and take a look one night next week and see if I can get something up and running ...

Monty.

Well the server is up & running - looks like one minor gremlin to work out & away we go...

dfc.lodgey.com:27015

You can connect but it errors after about 10 secs saying

"Error verifying STEAM UserID Ticket"

Anyone?

Some random web site wrote:
Luckily itís, usually, a quick fix. There are a few actually.

1) Simply restart Steam. This is so simple that a lot of people forget this step.

2) If that doesnít fix it then re-login to Steam. Launch Steam, then under settings click the ĎLogin as a different userí button and re-enter your username and password. This fixed it for me, I havenít had any problems since.

3) Failing that locate your steam folder, usually in the program files directory, and delete the ClientRegistry.blob file and restart Steam.

Quite a few web sites listed these so they may work..although you have probably already tried them via Google.

First the good news
After much teching tonight I have now got a working server loaded with DFC's config.
Usual password!

cs.lodgey.com

The bad news is that it is only on a DSLmax connection untill I can work out why my checkpoint firewall doesn't seem to like talking to the steam servers!

Server will be up all weekend so feel free to have a play......

I too have had a go at installing a 12 user server. I am not sure what it will perform like, or whether you can even connect, but please give it a go and report back. It runs okay from my LAN but I am unable to test it via the external connection as I only have the one internet pipe.

steam://connect/falihax.gotdns.com:27015

It is probably something I will then schedule to run on Friday nights so it should be available.

[EDIT : Now tested and seems to work okay.

It will launch at 16:00 on Friday's and should be available to you over the weekend. Remember though it is running on a machine that could do other stuff and other people in the house could use the bandwidth, so don't bloody well moan if it doesn't work sometimes.

I have installed the Mani-Admin plugin, but have not got it configured other than the default settings - I don't really understand it all]

At last the DFC CS:S server is up and running.
[just missing one static route!]

I have scripted it to start every day @ 6pm & all weekends

steam://connect/cs.lodgey.com:27015
steam://connect/dfc.lodgey.com:27015

If you want it on out of these hours - just email me.....

This server is on a dedicated 4mb fibre pipe so you should get very low latency & an excellent response.....
[Out of office hours this line pretty much does nothing apart from host our website & the odd vpn client......]
Game Friday anyone Smile

I am having a go at a TF2 server next. Assuming it works basically the same as CS it should be pretty simple.

I haven't found the port forwarding information yet, but if it is different than CS I may be struggling as I seem to have run out of slots for ports.
