Okay, so how about a version of Battlefield 1942 that has more modern graphics?

Check out http://www.battlefield1943.com/ as it is coming this year on PC, PS3 and Xbox as a download only game using the Battlefield: Bad Company engine.

It appears to be limited to Wake Island, Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima, but as a download I reckon it will only be £10-£15.

Nice.

New trailer out at :-

http://www.eurogamer.net/videos/battlefield-1943-wake-island-trailer

States it is out on Xbox and PS3 in June for $15 or 1200 Microsoft Points - no mention of PC version although elsewhere on the site it says PC Release Date: Q3 2009

BTW, 1200 MSP = £10.20 in real money - so probably £10-£15 on PC when it arrives.

Got it for the Xbox and PS3 and it is a perfectly fine version of BF1942 with modern graphics.

Most of the buildings are now destructible and there is a bomber squadron that can carpet bomb the enemy (if you control the communications bunker).

There are only three classes so they have sort of combined classes from the BF1942 ones I think (e.g. sniper is also the dynamite man).

Problem for a BobLAN could be that there are only 4 maps, and because it is really an online only game they are all tuned for 24 players, so they could be too big to be fun in a 7 on 7 scenario.

I thought graphics on PS3 were shit. Really lo-res.

Still, the demo lasted longer on my HD than Ghostbusters. Utter dogshit.

Just checking the situation with the EA Store in case the PC version does not appear on Steam.

(Assuming it is the same as with BF2), basically your initial outlay lets you only download the game for 1 year...if you want the right to download the game you bought for up to 5 years EA will charge you another £3 - over 5 years you are apparently screwed.

So unless it appears on Steam with the normal download conditions they can shove it up there arse as far as I am concerned...I am not renting a game for 1 year or 5 years on principle.

What is the Extended Download Service?

EA Store – download EA games direct to your PC! Think of this as your digital safety net for those unexpected occurrences – like your hard drive frying or a virus infection. EDS means that with the purchase of your digital product, your download will be available for five full years from the date of purchase. This is an extension to the complimentary coverage we provide for one year with any digital purchase from the EA STORE. You’ll gain peace of mind knowing that we have your program stored and ready for you to download again at your convenience!
