Still no sign of BF1943 coming for PC. They have refunded money to people who pre-ordered, but at the same time said that it still is coming - just no date given.

So we may need to mess around getting '42 running if we want some WW II shooting with vehicles included (otherwise COD2 or MoH could do us)

L4D2 Scavenge Mode was a definite hit on tuesday night with me, Lynx and Quotoria. Definitely one for the LAN.

Bean, if you are talking graphics for PC then you might want to consider this one

An Asus Gforce GTS 250 1024MD DDR3 RAM PCIE

It is around 108 inc vat. at Aria. 100 at scan but is XFX not Asus.

A GTS 250 is gonna be shit hot compared to most of us. Future proof to some degree.

GTS 240 are around 80 and the 260 GTS is around 140, so it's right in your ball park.

I am an Nvidia Elitist, so don't do ATI. Bob rates them but I don't know much about them.

If you are talking a laptop GFX card. Erm... Get a desktop. Smile

Looks like Radeon HD 5750/5770 are the two to consider in the 110-ish mark going down the other manufacturer route - seem similar to the GTS250...just pipping it in most of the fps benchmarks, losing out in a couple.

Not sure whether a 5750 with 1024MB is better/worse/same than a 5770 with 512MB - they are similar prices.

I have a Nvidia something or other at the moment (6800/8600/6600/8800 GT cannot remember exactly) and it has always suffered odd stuttering issues where it occasionally locks up for a second or two...given my PC is an AMD I am thinking of trying the AMD based graphics card as well in the hope they play nicer together (although I could probably fix the stutters with a reinstall).

I think it has to be a single-slot width card as well...which is going to limit me a bit. I'll give it another few weeks and see if I can pick up a 1GB 5770 or 260 GTS for around 120 I think.

Whatever you get make sure it supports Direct X 11. Nothing uses it yet but it's best to have it enabled!

Steam are holding a sale for Dogfighter until 23rd August.

http://store.steampowered.com/news/4205/

Both the single and 4-pack are at half price, so well worth picking up a copy now.

Since launch, they have also added dedicated server support - very LAN-friendly Smile It also plays very well on the X360 controller out of the box.

What is the player limit? Do we really need a certain amount of players to grab it for proper teams (or is it free-for-all)?

We have just bought the 4 pack for Wij, Pup, Gee & Bean. You already have it - does anyone else?

It supports upto 8 players at present. The standard maps aren't big enough to support more players atm. I'm sure that'll change with time.

If another group of 4 wants to buy it, I'd take a second copy for my spare PC.

I think Albert and AngryDaz may have got it a month or so ago in the summer sale.

I'll probably be picking Dogfighter up at some point....

And I got the ATI HD 5770 1Gb about 6 momths ago, and didn't notice too much of an improvement over the 8800GTX. Although I am running in 1920*1080 exclusively now, which has probably eaten up all the additional grunt.

Might follow Gaz's lead and spend a bit more on the 5850 - his new card is astonishing....first time I've seen Crysis in cream-o-vision in 1920*1080 Razz

Graphics cards are definitely in that price range of "oooh...for just 26 more I can get an extra 20fps...and for anoher 22 I can get a further 15fps...etc" - and before you know it you are at a 220 graphics card instead of the 110 you started at.

I am thinking I will stick at the HD5770 - it seems to be quite power efficient as well and so should work okay without me also having to upgrade my weedy PSU.

Gren - is the 5850 in his Shuttle? If so, then I'd be interested too. Still on the 8800GTX here, running most things at 1920x1080.

@Mes - yup.....the same shuttle that me, you and Gaz got in 2007 Wink

The 5850 appears to be a big step up from the 5770 from what I've seen, and there was a special on somewhere that had the 1GB DDR5 version for 200-.

Gaz knows the details - I think it was Aria. I'm in the process of selling my 8800GTX, and then I'm getting the 5850 Smile
